I spent a while staring at this screen debating on whether I should chalk this out into a general email and then another one just for my family. But due to time and general laziness, I thought, "Why would I try and block them from the realities of 3rd world?" So, due to my Mother begging me not to hide things, I welcome you to my crazy week. Mom, everything is fine, I am fine. This whole story is now to the point were it's all just hilarious to me now.
So, it's been cool in my new area. I'll have to go into more detail in another week, but it's bigger and has a SUPER NEW AND FANCY CHAPEL. Like it almost blew my mind! But it's still campo enough that people get a kick out of a white boy speaking Guarani.
This week was super crazy and busy. There's a bunch of freaking nonsense I have to do as a "leader" (fancy word for babysitter) that takes place of just working a lot of times. So that bugs me--like making sure everyone is where they're supposed to be and doing what they should be doing.
And it was all good until Wednesday, when I felt a fever coming on and wow, it was a doozy! But I'm tough, right? I'll just work through it and catch some rest. I took a cold shower and crawled into bed, and sweated so much that night! It was such a bad night of sleep, but when I woke up, tranquillo pa. So, we keep on going on. We had to go to Asuncion that night because we have a training the next day that's just for all the zone leaders in the mission, and I've been asked to conduct the meeting. So, that's already a little freaky as a brand new zone leader. And then that night I feel the fever come back and sleep through the second WORSE NIGHT of my life. A delirium of sweat and cold and hot and awake and diarrhea. Dreams of president changing me out as leader because I was sick, and HAD to wake up some Elders and get a blessing. Wake up in the morning and feel a lot better but kinda dizzy.
The meeting was really cool. When I got to the mission we had 14 zones. As of the last change we now have 9. 18 zone leaders and out of all them, only 2 were new. It was just a really cool meeting with the President, to see the direction of the mision and that we as leaders are responsible for making it happen.
Anyway, we get a call that Elder C is also really sick and can't work, and has the same symptoms that I do. What the fetch right?
Well, the LAST STRAW was going to the bathroom and seeing red in my diarrhea. RED. I flipped out and we did a fast one to the hospital. After a bunch of nonsense, it turns out I ate some nasty stuff, as Auntie Car would say "that white boys from Temecula shouldn't eat." There was a bad bacteria that was making me really sick. Looks like my LAST DAY AND LAST MEAL in Paso Yobai really messed me over. So, they gave me my antibiotics and it was all good. They did tell me that the diarrhea would keep coming because that's how it cleans me out.
So, I was really babied this week by my companion, who loves me. We watched about every Mormon Message that exists and listened to a bunch of talks and planned for the zone training we have, so it was really tranqullo. I feel a lot better and just ready for a good healthy week so I can really get to know Coronel Oviedo!
I was able to get a strong testimony this week, that even when our body feels weak, we can feel strong and uplifted in spirit, and I know God is to thank for that.
Elder Yocum
