The Fam Bam

Well, years of "game nights" have finally paid off. I have to give a shout out to both the Winkler and Yocum sides for training a young boy to be able to go to Paraguay and make our ward nights the place to be, with obscure but crazy, fun games.

Chickens up, chickens down has officially reached "fad" stage here in Oviedo and among other missionaries--my compañion being one of the greatest fanatics.

Also, I was able to bring some tastes of the states here as last week we had pork chops. I, in true Marti/Yocum fashion did ramen noodles, and topped my chops with apple sauce, And while the 3 other Latino missionaries looked at me like the crazy white boy that I am, by the end of the lunch all were topping their pork chop with noodles and applesause. Win.

Also, I still remember how big Elder R's eyes got when I completed my "Parker-style hashbrowns," thanks to the last package I got from my fam.

This week was super hot, which makes the work hilariously horrible. I thought I had it bad, until I saw a sister missionary that had sweat stains the same size as my own.

It's funny, at a certain point in the mission every trial just turns into, well, this is going to make for a great story. There really is nothing that will stop this work. No amount of heat, rain, persecution, unfriendly neighbors....there are always a million excusas, but they are only there if you decide to take them. I've learned the measure of a person isn't found in success that is visible by all, but by the number of problems they have in front of them, and still they choose to move forward.

That's Parker's little thought for the week. Love you all.

Elder Yocum
