We got a call from Elder Yocum this morning at 2:15 AM. He had arrived at the Buenos Aires airport (it was 6:15 his time) and was waiting for his flight to Paraguay. We weren't sure if he would be able to find a phone to call us on his way out. So, it was the most welcome early morning call I have ever received! He sounded so good!! He was so excited to finally get to his assignment in Paraguay. We woke up all of the kids and they came in with bleary eyes onto our bed to hear the stories and have a few minutes to talk with Parker. Of course he had to show off his Spanish. We were all very impressed--although none of us knew for sure if he was getting it right, or not! ;) His accent is quite improved, though! Our visit was over way too soon, but we were so grateful to hear his voice and to feel of his excitement. Later this morning, a quick email came in which read:
Got to Paraguay safely. It's so cool, dirt roads, crazy drivers, terere, and very humid and very hot.
Alive and well.
Pday on Monday, love you all.
as Bilbo said, I'm going on an adventure!
Well, there you have it. Short, but oh, so sweet! We looked at the weather in Asunción today and it was 102 degrees--with humidity it had a "real feel" of 107 degrees. It was in the 70's when he left BA. Welcome back to Summer, Elder Yocum.
Monday can't come soon enough!! :)
We also got several pictures of his last Sunday in the CCM with all of his peeps. . . half of his district will be going to the Uruguay mission.

We actually got the scoop on this personal joke. This guy is his basketball buddy. He told EY that if he kept
the "cookie in a jar" position after his shot, it would be a winner every time. This is their tribute to the perfect shot. |
